UH Cancer Center Travel Award
What is the Travel Award?
The UH Cancer Center Travel Award will provide funding for trainees to present their cancer-related research at a peer-reviewed conference. The award may also cover the cost of trainee participation in virtual or online conferences.
Who is eligible
UH Cancer Center Trainees who meet the following criteria:
- Post-doctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students working on cancer related topics.
- Mentor is a UH Cancer Center member.
- Current affiliation with UH or RCUH, i.e. at least one of the conditions below applies:
- UH graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in a degree program and in good academic standing
- Post-docs and other trainees who are actively employed by UH or RCUH.
- UH graduate students are requested to apply to UH Mānoa Graduate Student Organization (GSO) Grants and Awards prior to submitting a UH Cancer Center application. The UH Cancer Center Travel Award may help defray the expenses not covered by the GSO. See UH GSO's website for complete guidelines and deadlines.
- Author of a project accepted for oral or poster presentation at a scientific meeting; presenters of a paper will have priority over non-presenting co-authors.
- Virtual and online meetings, conferences, workshops and training courses will be considered by Leadership.
- Given limited funding, an application does not guarantee support.
- Meet the posted deadlines and allow at least 2 months before conference to allow processing of travel award.
- Spring 2023 cycle: February 1, 2023
- Summer 2023 cycle: June 1, 2023
- Fall 2023 cycle: September 1, 2023
How much will be awarded?
Funding will depend on the expected travel and registration costs. Awards may vary between $1,000 to $2,000 depending on the location of the conference and availability of funds.
For online conferences: Funding will depend on the registration or course costs.
What are my obligations?
The awardee will be required to sign a statement confirming that he/she will attend or present at the stated conference, provide an official letter of acceptance for the conference, and submit a short post-conference report describing how attending the conference made a difference to your research project (e.g. feedback on your project at the poster/talk, ideas gleaned from a presentation, new collaborations, etc.).
