Early Phase Clinical Research Center (EPCRC) with Cancer Organoid Facility and Drug Development Program

Standard cancer care is constantly changing as basic discoveries are tested in patients and improved approaches are defined. A clinical trial is a critical step in advancing care; it is a research study testing the safety and effectiveness of new treatments in cancer. Every cancer-fighting drug and therapy available to doctors today was tested in a clinical trial before it could be used routinely on patients.

Early Phase (phase 1) clinical trials represent the cutting edge of cancer treatments and our goal is to ensure no patient will have to travel to the continental U.S. for these types of specialized treatments. Hawaiʻi cancer patients need and deserve access to early phase trials and UH Cancer Center is responding.

The Early Phase Clinical Research Center, in conjunction with a Cancer Drug Development Program and Organoid Facility will serve an estimated 100 to 200 patients annually and contribute greatly to the world’s body of cancer research knowledge.

We invite you to be a part of history in supporting this vision for the State of Hawaiʻi.

$13M has been secured from the State of Hawaiʻi and the National Institutes of Health for construction. We need additional funding for equipment and programmatic support to hire the best physicians and researchers.
