Cyanotoxins and Liver Cancer Development (Liver Health Study)
This study seeks to understand the role of a common bacteria found in the environment, called Cyanobacteria, and the poisons they produce that may lead to a chronic liver disease and liver cancer.
What do I have to do?
This study visit will be at the UH Cancer Center in Kakaʻako and may require up to 2 hours of your time. During that time you will:
- Answer a survey about your medical history and other health information
- Complete height, weight, waist, and blood pressure measurements
- Have an ultrasound of your liver (also called FibroScan)
- Provide saliva, urine, and blood samples

ELIGIBILITY:
- You must be 40-70 years old and a resident of Hawaiʻi
- No history of cancer
- You must also meet other medical criteria
- The study staff will talk to you and find out if you are eligible
