Research Focus

Dr. Horgen's research pivots around the discovery of biologically active secondary metabolites from marine organisms. His interests and expertise include chemical structure determination, chromatography, analytical chemistry, ion channel biology, and chemical ecology. Currently his lab is screening marine bacteria, fungi, algae, and invertebrates for their ability to modulate the function of transient receptor potential (TRP) cation channels. He is also involved in investigating marine cyanobacteria for novel non-ribosomally biosynthesized peptides.
